iGoogle

Get to iGoogle

To get to iGoogle. you can follow this link iGoogle Link and then sign into your google apps account.


Starting With iGoogle

If you had never made an iGoogle before or used it on the google account provided by the school, then when you go on iGoogle(iGoogle) you will see something like this:

You can now chose what you want from the categories--interests, themes, and location.
  • Any interests that may apply to you, you would check off. You can have as many as all or as little as none
  • Then, you can chose a theme that you like the most. If you don't like it, you can change it later.
  • Setting your location helps google know the weather around you and will make it easier for you to do other things.

This is what you may pick in the beginning menu. Now, you would click Untitled.pngand then view your iGoogle Homepage. Now since I chose Sports and the Moon theme, then I will see something like this at the very bottom of the page.

This is called a widget. There will already be multiple widgets on your iGoogle that show up automatically. These widgets are all like the following:
At the top left is the Weather widget. You can input your location and it will give you the weather for that area. To the right of that is the Date and Time which obviously shows Date and Time. Then, to the right of that is a Youtube widget. On that, you can watch today's spotlight video right in iGoogle and search other videos on Youtube. Then, on the bottem left is SI.com and CNN.com which are both news widgets.

Adding Widgets

To add more widgets, you would look in the top right corner Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.46.28 AM.png and click on the right most tab. If you hover your mouse over, it, you would see it says "Add Gadgets" Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.48.40 AM.png
Now, if you click on that it would take you to a screen that looks like this:

At the top, you can see a search bar to search for widgets or gadgets you can put on your iGoogle homepage. Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.50.41 AM.png
Also, you can scroll through pages of gadgets starting from when you first click on Add Gadgets, it would take you to All. You can choose what category you want to look at by clicking on the left side, the category you would like to look at. Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.50.20 AM.png Now, when you finally find a gadget or widget that you like and want to add to your iGoogle homepage, can click on Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.50.28 AM.pngand it will automatically add it to the bottom of your iGoogle. Once you have finished adding any gadgets or widgets you like, to return to iGoogle in the top left corner you can click on Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 8.50.35 AM.png

Deleting Widgets

To delete a widget, you want to be on your iGoogle homepage and have already found the widget. Lets say i would like to delete the CNN.com widget. First, I would click on the gear in the top right corner of the widget, but as you can see below there will be no gear until you hover your mouse over the gadget as shown in the second graphic.

Now, you would like to click on the gear that you see in the top right corner and you would see this: Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 9.10.09 AM.png Then, you want to click on "Delete this Gadget" and something like this would pop up: Screen shot 2012-10-02 at 9.10.29 AM.png Now, you would click OK and then you would have successfully deleted the CNN.com gadget.

Change Theme

You would go back to where you looked for adding a gadget--in the top right corner. Screen shot 2012-10-03 at 12.41.11 PM.png and if you hover on the middle tab, then you will see it says Screen shot 2012-10-03 at 12.41.20 PM.png "Change Theme." Then, at the top of your browser you will see this pop up. Now, you can click on any theme you like.

When you click on it, then you will see that there will be a green check in the top left corner and it will appear as your background.

Then, you can click on the X in the top right corner to close the theme tab that opened and enjoy the new theme!

More Features

iGoogle has some more features like searching the internet. At the top center of iGoogle, there will be a search bar just like one that the classic home has.Screen shot 2012-10-03 at 12.51.04 PM.png
If you are tired of iGoogle, you can change back to the classic home by looking in the top right corner for the gear tab Screen shot 2012-10-03 at 12.51.18 PM.png and clicking on it and then clicking on Screen shot 2012-10-03 at 12.51.25 PM.png

Additional Notes

Be sure to use iGoogle as much as you can now, because it will no longer be available to anyone after November 1, 2013!
